(2020 – Present)
Lee Summers is an adjunct professor at NYU Steinhardt, where he teaches Acting for Singers at the undergraduate and graduate levels, working with classical, musical theatre, and contemporary vocalists. His teaching bridges professional rehearsal practice with actor training rooted in the Meisner and Uta Hagen techniques, emphasizing truthful behavior, active listening, emotional availability, and dramatic specificity.
He has also taught Music Scene Study and draws on his MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from NYU Tisch to guide students in script and scene analysis, helping performers build clear, playable actions and fully realized interpretations of text.
Drawing on decades of professional experience on Broadway, television, and regional theatre, Summers encourages performers to move beyond presentation and into fully lived dramatic action.
His core philosophy is simple:
Great singing actors are not singers who act—they are actors who sing.
