What Lee Summers brings to your project
Lee Summers holds an MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from the NYU Tisch Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program and is an adjunct professor at NYU Steinhardt, where he teaches Acting for Singers at the undergraduate and graduate levels. His teaching is grounded in the Meisner and Uta Hagen techniques, and he has directed emerging musicals through the NYU and BerkleeNYC programs for six years running.
As a director, he is a two-time AUDELCO Award winner for Best Director of a Musical — the AUDELCO Awards honor excellence in Black American theatre, presented annually since 1973 — with 24 nominations across his career. His production work has earned Best Musical recognition from Hawaii to New York. As a writer, his musicals are in active commercial circulation: one represented by Concord Theatricals, another in development with a noted Broadway producer. As a producer, he took From My Hometown to Off-Broadway. As a performer, he has worked on Broadway, in television, and in regional theatre across decades.
That range — writer, composer, director, producer, actor, and educator all operating at a professional level simultaneously — is what he brings to your project. Not notes from one angle. Judgment from every angle.
Consulting Services
Creative Development Assessment — $2,000–$2,500
A comprehensive written evaluation of your project covering book, score, character, staging viability, commercial potential, and development path. Includes a 90-minute session and a written report. This is a diagnostic, not a conversation. You walk away with a roadmap.
Hourly Consultation — $300/hour (2-hour minimum)
Targeted work on specific questions in active development.
Script & Score Development Package — $4,500
Six structured sessions over eight weeks with written notes after each. For projects in active rewrite.
Producing Strategy Consultation — $2,500–$3,500
For teams ready to move from development toward production: investor materials, producing structure, budget reality-checking, market positioning.
Creative Retainer — from $3,500/month
Ongoing access for projects with a production timeline. Scope established at engagement.
Playwriting & Composing Coaching — $200–$250/hour
Craft development for emerging writers.
International engagements carry a 15% rate adjustment.
